David wants to learn about his family, since he didn't know his father very well. Mason's Corner seems a like a friendly small Southern town, but then a newcomer moves into the "haunted" house on the hill. Strange things start happening, and as David learns more about his family, he learns about what is happening in the town. The story of the town's history and the connection of all th After his father dies, David Hunter moves to Mason's Corner, the small Mississippi town where his father lived. The story of the town's history and the connection of all the characters to that history was interesting.

The town was founded by Edward Mason, a plantation owner in the s, whose slaves revolted and killed him. The current residents of the town are the descendants of the slaves who had revolted. What makes it interesting, is that one of those slaves was a vampire. A pretty average vampire story.

Every Dark Corner (The Cincinnati Series Book 3)

This was a really slow read for me. The plot was fine, but I never felt engaged with the characters. I haven't read anything else by Massey, but I would give his writing another chance. Oct 28, Beth rated it did not like it Recommends it for: nobody. Please read Octavia Butler instead.

I missed the clue in the blurb that mentioned something undead. When I found out what that was, I was thinking, oh no, not sure this book is what I was hoping it would be. Told from several points of view, you learn exactly what evil is hovering over the town. I think the multiple POVs made this story a richer experience for me. I really came to know the characters, to like them, to despair for them and, yes, to loath some of them. That goes without saying when evil comes out to play. Or bite you in the….. Perhaps make some references to books and movies that came to mind while reading this, but why spoil things for you.

Wow Such a great book. It has everything you could want: action, the paranormal, humor, adventure, danger and a touch of romance. The ending was not rushed at all and I hope this isn't the last of the Hunter!!!! Dec 26, Cynthia rated it it was ok. The biggest problem with Brandon Massey novels is he has his characters do things no human would do in the situation: Running out into the dark night to find a dog when vampires are running amok and biting as many people as they can; Wasting time unloading firearms at vampires when they know the bullets do nothing to hurt the vampire; Having a weapon trained on a vampire and waiting for the vampire to bite it's victim before firing I want so bad to love Brandon Massey's books, he writes The biggest problem with Brandon Massey novels is he has his characters do things no human would do in the situation: Running out into the dark night to find a dog when vampires are running amok and biting as many people as they can; Wasting time unloading firearms at vampires when they know the bullets do nothing to hurt the vampire; Having a weapon trained on a vampire and waiting for the vampire to bite it's victim before firing I want so bad to love Brandon Massey's books, he writes so well, so vivid, but his talent is wasted on these B-movie type novels.

I read the whole thing because I like the way he writes. I just wish there weren't so many times when I said "Are you serious?! I have not been put off Brandon Massey yet, I am going to move on to the Other Brother and try to recover from this one. Oct 12, Janie Johnson rated it liked it. Show More Show Less. There hadn't been any when he'd left, and he figured that had become the county's chief export: kids whose career choices were deploying to Anbar province or putting out stock at Wal-Mart.

The switchbacks wound through walls of hardwoods and scrub pine, the slopes cut with the occasional logging or fire road that inched through the forests. He drove slowly, the sun barely over the treetops and the blacktop slick. Past the Ranger Station, the road leveled and straightened, and people sat on porches with portable phones and police scanners, quilts across their laps, yards littered with garden gnomes and plastic waterfowl.

In a couple of months, the quilts would be gone, and they'd be shelling peas into washtubs, box fans whirring, phones still crooked in the bend of their necks. He took a left at the intersection of 28 and Whetstone Road, gained speed as he approached the higher elevations where the gated communities and vacation homes perched. When the last of the Piedmont mills had fled, the chief employment had become the construction of second homes for trial lawyers and surgeons out of Atlanta and Charlotte, hulking behemoths of stone and glass stilted on limestone crags and brokered, almost exclusively, by Dallas.

Malcolm hit his father's gravel drive hard enough to fishtail into the yard, the beagles on the porch waking, ears pricked.
